Coronavirus Outbreak: Dota 2 ESL One Major Los Angeles 2020

The ESL One Major is starting on March 15, 2020, in Los Angeles. There is no official news on canceling the event as of yet, but it might not be the same as fans were expecting. Three teams from China are attending the event. The worst-case scenario might be the event played without these teams. It would be disadvantageous towards their road to the International. There is no telling how long this coronavirus epidemy might last, but the safety of players and fans come first. Valve needs to step up and plan the future of the Dota 2 teams.

Recently, there is a rapid outbreak of coronavirus, which got declared as a global health concern. It is starting to spread outside China, affecting every department all across the world. Esports is no exception.

IEM Katowice 2020 under concerns

IEM Katowice came at the risk of getting canceled due to the Silesian Governor's concern amid the coronavirus outbreak. The audience was not permitted to witness the playoffs.

The event is better off not held if there are no fans. Luckily there are no cases of coronavirus reported as of the date in Poland. ESL management and Katowice city authorities declared the safety, and the fans were allowed to attend the event without any worries.

Other Esports Events Cancelled

China is involved in several major Esports titles, and host events throughout the year. Unfortunately, various events are postponed or canceled due to coronavirus. The most prominent example is China's League of Legends and the Overwatch third season.

ESL One Los Angeles Dota 2 in trouble

Unfortunately, Dota 2 is not immune to the coronavirus as well. Recently, ESL One Major regional qualifiers got held. The huge virus threat concerned the teams in the Chinese region the most.

The qualifiers kicked off on February 7 for all regions, but Chinese qualifiers were postponed by Valve on a later date of February 12. It became a big concern in itself for fans and players.
